The Northeastern Illinois Regional Crime Laboratory (NIRCL) was founded in 1968 and provides forensic services to 59-member law enforcement agencies. The NIRCL, which is based in Vernon Hills IL, provides comprehensive forensic services to the suburbs and collar areas of Vernon Hills IL. The laboratory's purpose is to deliver thorough forensic services that are accurate, objective, and timely. To achieve the mission's goals, NIRCL employs around a dozen highly competent forensic scientists. DNA, Firearms/Toolmarks, Controlled Substances, Latent Prints, and Toxicology analyses are all accredited by NIRCL. NIRCL was first accredited in 1997 and is presently accredited by the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB) to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 international standards.
